![]() PHOTO OF THE WEEK: It's not clear until we've been hiking for a few miles and see just the very tops of fence posts poking out in the drifts, that the packed snow trail we've been walking on sits on top of at least a few feet of accumulation. When we get to the old mining cabins, we can walk clear over the fence surrounding the cluster of buildings, which are mostly visible from just below their eves. A narrow wind path is carved along the side of one log wall and on this bright spring day, standing in the shadow of these neck-high, sculpted layers of snow is like finding an archeological site. Evidence of a long, mountain winter, soon extinct, for the year. | |
